The lake is called Deer Park Mere and has an extensive bird and waterfowl population monitored and recorded by the Nantwich Natural History Society. The nature trail is a lovely walk for visitors and was recently improved with the aim of providing a free environmental facility for schools and people with special needs.  When visiting this area it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear as walkways can flood in bad weather.  Group guided visits, on garden open days, can be booked through the Castle Office.
