The Childrens Den

Opened in 2014 with the help of dozens of children lending their creative input, this is sited in a corner of the Den made from a stack of old pallets to give a basic structure.  Children then added old plant pots, bits of old clay pipe, old roof tiles and filled them with stones, straw, bamboo canes, soil and leaves to create an ideal habitat for a host of insects.  Our bug hotel provides a valuable shelter for important species such as ladybirds, woodlice and lacewings to name a few, all valuable and essential insects for a healthy garden.

Situated in the long grass area behind the disabled car park this “natural” play area is an exciting space for little ones to explore and ignite the imagination, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Cholmondeley wildlife.

Children will love to explore this area which includes wood carvings, secret hideaways, log seating, and our own “Bug Hotel”. New features will be added over the coming months to ensure that the Den develops an identity and atmosphere that will keep young and old alike enthralled.
